Fall 2009 Makeup Colors

Fall is in the air in some parts of the country. Bright autumn colors are gracing magazine covers creating an inviting and warm sense of well being. So too are the colors for fall makeup. Neutral colors are still around but in fabulous metallic shades. However, don’t throw out your purple, green, blue, or gray eye shadow because those are still great color choices for fall.

Gray of course is the new black for fall. There are many shades of gray in eye shadow brands on the market. Maybelline has some fabulous Expertwear Quad pallets that even have the words brow bone, lid, crease, and outer corner stamped on the color trays, so you can create an expert look. Look for colors with some metallic shimmer to brighten up your eyes.

Luscious gold and bronze are also great colors for fall. To keep it simple sweep on a metallic gold shadow on your lids for a pretty day look. In the evening, you can mix in a little darker bronze for a more dramatic look.

Since colors are still in the fall pallet have fun playing with different shades of purple and green. You can’t go wrong with purple no matter what your eye color or skin color is. You can create a dramatic smoky eye by laying darker and lighter shades of purple. Smug a little purple eyeliner along your top lash line for an even bolder look. Greens are coming in mossy neutrals with a hint of shimmer. You can pair the greens with a metallic gold to really make your eyes pop. Blend them together to create your own custom color! The sky is the limit.

If you plan on your eyes to be the focal point, be sure to choose neutral colors for cheeks and lips. The key is to draw attention to one area of your face and if you start putting bold colors on cheeks and lips, you loose the effect of the bright eyes you worked so hard on. In addition, you run the risk over overdoing it. Simplicity is the key, but just because you want to create a natural look, doesn’t mean you have to skimp on color.

To get even more in the fall mood, paint your nails a deep red or bronze with a metallic shimmer. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri has two fabulous colors out right now, Wined-Up, which is a deep red and Mochachino, which is a brownish bronze. Both have a slight gold shimmer added to make your nails glimmer those wonderful fall hues. If you go to the Sally Hansen website, the colors really don’t look the same as the actual product. I have Wined-Up and Mochachino and love them both.

Makeup is fun, so enjoy playing with new color. If you’ve never tried purple for your eyes, I suggest giving it a try first. You might be surprised with how it turns out. Get your toes Wined-Up, step out into the crisp air, and enjoy the cooler weather!
