Uses of interrogative pronouns Qué and Cuál.

Why "¿Cuál árbol es más grande?" is wrong?

In fact, the correct way to use cual/que is: "Qué árbol es más grande?", because "cuál" or its plural form, "cuáles" is never followed by a noun. So, whenever we need to use a noun, the right interrogative pronoun will be "qué".

Let's see how it works:

The sentence: "¿Qué libro prefieres?"

Here, we have the noun "libro", so we need to use "qué". If we want to ommit the noun, we'd say: ¿Cuál prefieres?

The plural form for "qué" does not change: "¿Qué libros prefieres?" but the plural for "cuál" is "cuáles: "¿Cuáles prefieres?"

Finally, never forget interrogative pronouns always take an accent.

Here you have more examples:

¿Qué libro estás leyendo? ¿Cuál estás leyendo?
¿Qué canciones te gustan más? ¿Cuáles te gustan más?
¿Qué casa es más alta? ¿Cuál es más alta?

Hope this helps!
