How can we partake of all that summer offers and still save money? Fortunately, the summer season abounds with low-cost or even “free” activities and events!

Here are some suggestions for summer activities that are not only affordable (in some cases, actually “free”) but educational and entertaining as well.

1. Agricultural expos and shows.

2. Aquariums, aviaries, galleries, museums, planetariums and zoos offer a wide range of seasonal activities and programs designed for children and families. Inquire about discounts or promotions.

5. Carnivals and fairs. Peruse the websites of nearby counties, municipalities and townships for scheduled dates and applicable information for carnivals and fairs. In many instances, admission for young children (check the age requirement) may be free. Many fairs also have a senior citizen day. Admission to street fairs may be free.

6. City league sports including day camp programs for kids; baseball, racquetball, tennis, track, volleyball, etc.; amateur youth sports teams and associations.
