Teach the Letter D

The letter D is not only dependable, it can also be daring! Here are some divine and delicious ideas for teaching this determined letter:

Cooking- Studying the letter D will bring to mind many snacks and recipes that start with the letter D. Here is a fun and easy recipe for "Delicious Dip". Serve fresh cut apples and strawberries, or even bite sized cookies with this yummy dip. Children can assist in measuring out ingredients and stirring the dip, either in a large bowl for all to share or individualized cups. If you do use individual bowls or cups be sure to portion and divide the main ingredients accordingly.

Ingredients-

8oz whipped cream cheese (you can use plain or fruit flavored)
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup Fluff
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions-

Combine all ingrdients and mix well.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Place leftover dip in the refrigerator.

Serve with fresh apple slices and strawberries.

Science- Study Dinosaurs for a cool theme. Offer a Dinosaur play area, along with Dino identification books. Post a timeline on the wall of the various periods, such as "Jurrasic". Check out the book selections below for some great dinosaur themed stories, as well as center ideas.

Math- Dominoes are a classic Math themed game, and playing them increases your preschooler's awareness of patterns and simple counting skills. Designate a large table or a flat floor surface for play. Be sure to teach your child/children how to play first, and practice alongside them if possible.

Physical Education- Dancing is a great way to exercise and have fun! Put on some kids favorites and offer children plenty of space to dance. Free form is fun, but you could also teach the children different dances. Try the tried and true Hokey Pokey, or even Square Dancing.

Reading- In addition to Dinosaur books, other books featuring the letter d are dandy, too! D is for Drums: A Colonial Williamsburg ABC by Kay Chorao, D Is for Dinosaur by Ken Ham and D is for Dancing Dragon: A China Alphabet (Alphabet Books) by Carol Crane are all fun "D is for.." books. Here is a list of a few other D themed favorites:
