South Beach Tow Season 1

I accidently stumbled upon South Beach Tow one day last year while flipping through the television channels looking for something to watch. I’m not a really big “reality tv” watcher but the show immediately caught my interest.

South Beach Tow is a reality-based television show that airs on TruTV. It follows the day to day operations of the employees of Tremont Towing. The highlight of the show is the reactions of the people whose cars are being towed. On any given day, customers yell, argue, steal keys, jump on the back of the tow truck and more.

The stars of the show include Tremont’s owner, Robert Ashenhoff Sr, Robbie Ashenhoff (Mr. Ashenhoff’s son and Tremont’s senior driver) and Christie Ashenhoff (Mr. Ashehoff’s daughter and dispatcher). The cast also includes drivers Eddie, Jerome, Bernice and Perez.

Season 1 included a total of 20 30-minute episodes. In addition to the hilarious antics that Miami’s South Beach drivers come up with, there are also several storylines to follow with each character. The biggest ongoing storyline in the first season was Tremont’s rivalry with another towing company, The Finest Towing. The Finest Towing kept coming into Tremont’s towing area and stealing their tows. In addition, there were a few fist fights between the rival employees. There was even an incident where one of the Tremont’s drivers towed one of The Finest’s tow trucks back to Tremont.

Perez is introduced as a new driver and he seems to be too good to be true. Before the season ends, it comes to light that he has been stealing contracts from Tremont’s owner, Robert. He then took the stolen contracts and opened up his own company (Goodfellas Towing) with Larry (who is Robert’s arch enemy). Christie also agrees to go and work at Goodfellas with Perez until the criminal activities going on send her running back to Tremont.

Bernice easily steals the show this season. She originally worked for The Finest however she left and went to work for Tremont. Bernice, however struggled to fit in, continuously cursing out drivers and hitting customers so Robert fired her. Bernice made good when she came back to Tremont and gave them a heads up on what Larry and The Finest towing was planning. Due to her goodwill, Robert agrees to let her come back and work for Tremont. The season ends with Larry coming to Tremont and offering to buy the shop.

While the show is branded as “reality tv” I find it hard to believe that so many people go that ballistic when faced with the chance of their car being towed. A good deal of the show appears to be scripted. I must say however, the show is hilarious and it will keep you laughing from start to finish.
