Olympic Lapbook Review

"The Winter Olympics 2010" is the latest lapbook out there for the Vancouver games. A Journey Through Learning has offered a historical and topical resource for lapbooking the Olympics. Vancouver is the site for this year's winter games, beginning February 12th. Whether you are a sports fan, enthusiast or avid spectator the games promise to be exciting and action packed. Homeschoolers who are into lapbooking will thoroughly enjoy completing this current project, with a study guide included.

A full 59 pages, this lapbook begins with the typical setup information, including the basics of assembly and how long to plan for to achieve completion. The folder graphics are simple and clearly placed, and the how to directions are excellent. For seasoned lapbookers and newbies, the instructions within this book are easy to understand.

The timeline of the ancient games is the first topic presented. This is a great introduction to the idea of the Olympics, and the history behind the games. There is a concise and informative summary about the Greeks as well, along with clearly marked areas for your child to write what knowledge they gleen from the book. Myths and legends, as well as prizes given in the early games are discussed, which makes this lapbook have a definite edge. My son is currently into Mythology, and the Percy Jackson series, so he was really excited to read the cool information about the Gods and legends.

The Vancouver Olympics are explained well in this lapbook. Beginning with the torch relay, there is a location map, information on typical games of the Winter Olympics and games to look for in this year's Olympics. A fun word search, Bibliography and enrichment ideas are included as well. The graphics are colorful and creative. There is a list of suggested books for your children to read, as well as a reading log to record their books read. The lapbook as a whole is not only well written, it is also quite interesting!

Take some time to study the Olympics before the start of the 2010 games. Both you and your homeschooler will be glad you did!
