ABC’s comedy about pregnancy returns for a second season on Monday, November 26 at 9:30 p.m.

Andrew and Lauren decide its time to have a baby. Not wanting to jinx themselves, they decide not to tell their friends until they make it through the first trimester. Keeping that secret proves to be harder than they thought and soon they start receiving advice and warnings from almost everyone they meet.

Andrew and Lauren soon start to wonder if this is really something they are ready for.

The couple’s friends are there for support and advice too. Lauren’s best friend is Cooper, a divorce lawyer who lives to work. Cooper lacks anything resembling a conscience, but provides plenty of laughs.

Her other friend, Julie (Melanie Paxson), on the other hand was born to be a mom. Julie is pregnant, and thinks she is the authority on all things pregnancy related. Her annoying speeches and her squeaky voice are more frustrating to hear than fingernails down a blackboard, but she kind of balances out Cooper, so I guess she is needed.

Julie’s husband, Eric (Sunkrish Bala) needs to grow a backbone, but also needs to be developed more. Maybe this season we can actually learn a little something about him. Andrew’s best friend is somewhat of a directionless loser. Danny (Michael Weaver) has trouble holding down a job – and doing anything “grown up” really.

With friends like these, it’s no wonder Lauren and Andrew are having second thoughts. The only real problem I have with the sitcom is, what will happen after Andrew and Lauren’s bundle of joy arrives? Then will it just become another family show? Will it shift its focus to tackling the “terrible twos”? Will someone else start expecting? I’m just not sure where it can go from here.

There is nothing new or groundbreaking about the show, which started as a mid-season replacement and ran for eight episodes before a summer hiatus. It’s a familiar premise with characters who pretty much fit into the stereotypes – a woman who has always wanted to be a mom, a work-aholic who wants no part of childbearing, and a woman who thought she was ready, but now is not so sure. The male counterparts are all there too. Still despite this, it is a solid show, a strong contender among any sitcom.

The show is based on Risa Green’s novel of the same name. It was created by Stacy Traub (“Kitchen Confidential”), and is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (“Pushing Daisies”). Kim and Eric Tannenbaum (“Two and a Half Men”) serve as executive producers, along with Traub and Sonnenfeld.
