Our Wednesday Ladies Day held a special Par Three event set up by Ralph Harris our Director of Golf and Peggy Ruch our Play Day Chairman. They made our regulation 18 hole golf course into a Par Three Event. All 18 holes became a par three with tee markers set in unusual places where we had to hunt to find our them. This type of event brought out many players that usually do not show up on our Ladies Day.
It was a partnership scramble of two players each in a foursome and we started off hunting for that first tee box. It was found staked out in the rough with an angle into the green from about 120 yards out. There was a tree one had to watch out for but else it was a straight shot. Teeing up in the rough was a little tricky but everybody had to play the shot. The carts lined up waiting their turn to tee off made a colorful sight. This was a beautiful fall day on November 14, 2007 and we were still in shorts as the temperature would hit 85 that day. It was perfect golfing weather.
It was a challenge to wonder where the next tee boxes would be located. Even the normal par threes were in unusual places that made you think before choosing a club. You could check yardage markers but from the different angles it was difficult to choose wisely. Our course Mill Creek Golf Club has many trees numerous sand traps and they always seemed to be in the way. At lease our Director of Golf did not have us hit over any trees but they were always close. Our course has lots of water so there is no way to play around it. We do get used to those since we have to play over the water every day.
This was a unique type of golf event and one that could be used later on in your golfing season. I have read about some course will play their course backwards late in the season. Our course is different as we are open all year round and have many people playing the regular set up. We do have 27 holes so we could try some different types of games and not interfere with the other players. Any type of game or event makes an interesting change to your regular play. Keep it interesting and keep it fun.
