After graduating from Juilliard she made her Broadway debut in Paul Simon's The Capeman as the character Wahzinak. She won a Tony Award for Best Performance for her role of Lady of the Lake in the Broadway play Monty Python's Spamalot. These, with a number of other performances have more than proved she's a serious and talented vocalist as well as a talented actor. Sara has also performed off Broadway in a version of the Vagina Monologues. Like most beginning actors she paid her dues by taking small parts in other television series like Law & Order (SVU), NYPD and Third Watch just to name a few. You might even remember her as a Police Officer in the movie Spider-Man. The character of Doctor Torres is a beautiful, strong, intelligent woman. Some think that in comparison to her Grey's Anatomy co-stars she is chunky and I guess if you want to use them as a comparison then she is. But in comparison to the modern woman, even the classic woman, Sara Ramirez is perfect. And if you're here I guess you think so to! My only hope is that with all this popularity she doesn't lose her curvy "ness".
It took awhile for me to warm up to Dr. Torres and I hope now that she's let go of George that she will return to the capable and smart woman she was before she let him turn her world upside down. I'm kind of upset with the writers that they had George dump her so easily because "the pretty girl" suddenly decided she wanted him when he became unavailable. I think this perpetuates the stereotype/stigma that a chubby girl may be able to get a man but she might not necessary be able to keep him. I'm also hoping that now that they are no long an item that they won't drop her character from the story line-up. AT a size 12, I think Sara is a good role model for the young girls and women who are drawn to this series.
