Keeping Positive Tabs on Our kids

Like adults, Children can equally be manipulative. They have this subtle way of getting you to either get off their backs entirely or bend your rules terribly to their advantage. Our kids know exactly where our button are, and they know when to press these buttons to have their way. Most times we get blinded by the great love that we have for our kids that we do not notice when they manipulate us. Much as we love our kids and want the very best for them, we must also be alert to know when they are been manipulative. Keeping healthy tabs on them would help keep them out of trouble. Here are ways to do this, without invading their privacy:

1. When He/she seem to want to be alone more often: Now, this depends on the age of the kid involved. If your kid is a teenager and suddenly seem to withdraw, the chances are that she is having some personality issues or she is running low on self esteem.
On the other hand, if your kid is a teen or preteen, the chances are that he/she may have a bully on his case. Mind you it could be anything outside what I have mentioned here, the point though is that as parents, we need to always be on the alert to know when to step into a real situation before things are out of hand.

2. When your kid begins to act all jumpy and weird: Now you know a bully is definitely after him. These bullies have a way of making other kids dread school or have their victims looking over their backs all the time. If this is the case, you'll have to find a way to get your kid to confide in you. Children who are bullied usually don't come clean about it . They feel they can handle it, then things get out of hand, then they are afraid to talk about it. You will have to find a creative way to get the truth out of your kid.
3 When it becomes obvious your kid is having emotional problems: We are the best praise singers our kids would ever have. They need us to tell them how great and unique they are from time to time. Our teenage daughters in particular need our constant reassurance to build up their confidence.

Finally, we can all begin now to play major role in the lives of our children!
