Pursuing Hope: A Journey from Sorrow to Triumph

A great many people feel "scarred" by their childhood. Some use their experiences as a crutch...an excuse equally applicable to their lack of success as it is to all of the suffering and misery in their lives. Others draw on their childhood experiences in order to grow and become stronger, "better" adults. Such is the case of Ricardo DelleCave.

Ric's mother separated from his father because the senior DelleCave was sick with cancer. As a bitter, despondent alcoholic, she soon discarded Ric and his older brother at an orphanage. While Ric's brother fared better, Ric suffered more abuse and neglect at the hand of his house supervisor. After spending years being tormented at the orphanage, Ric and his brother are finally reunited with their mother. Newly married, she brings the boys home to live with their new step family. Unfortunately, Ric's stepfather and stepbrother are tyrants, and he continues to endure physical beatings. Unable to cope with the alcoholic rages, Ric runs away and seeks shelter in a nearby building. He continues to live in the buildings boiler room until he finishes school.

Pursuing Hope: A Journey from Sorrow to Triumph presents DelleCave's story in depth...one painful ordeal after another. It tells the story of an abused boy lacking hope and guidance who becomes involved with drugs and violence. Yet, as he is about to sink deeper, God uses a local family as his lifeline. Introducing Ric to biblical family values and a loving environment, the Carters invite him to their church's tent revival. That little bit of kindness extended by one family forever changed a troubled youth and helped to grow him into a pastor who served for over twenty years.
