The ultimate luxury in any strange city is a place of your own, with a perfect location and all the comforts of home – but with someone else doing all the work. Does this ever happen? Hardly ever.

But we found just such a place in Seville, the capital of Spain’s Andalucia region.

Locations just don’t get any better than The Suite Alcazar’s. The apartment fills the top two floors of a townhouse that looks straight out at the roof of Seville’s magnificent cathedral. Turn your head a few degrees and you’re looking down into the gardens of the Alcazar, over the top of its crenellated walls. Look the other way and you have the entire façade of the Archivo de Indias, the third of the buildings included in Seville’s World Heritage Site designation.

Look straight down and you have a bird’s eye view of the wide Plaza de Triunfo, through which Seville’s daily life passes endlessly. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop right under the balcony; friends meet and embrace, lovers stroll arm in arm, children race home from school, tour groups follow the red umbrellas into the Alcazar, all several stories below, like a continuous moving tableau viewed from above.

The Suite Alcazar is an adjunct of Hotel Casa Romana, located next door to their about-to-open sister hotel, Puerta de Alcazar, which will have seven luxury suites. The villa has one bedroom, but sleeps five with a pull-out bed in the living room and a single bed in the second-floor den.

This den is surrounded by two walls of glass, and from it we stepped out onto the wide L-shaped terrace overlooking the plaza. That’s where I would spend most of my time, for the views – and in the spring for the fragrance of orange blossoms drifting up from the Alcazar gardens.

The main floor below has a lot of attractions, too. The floors are marble, the furnishings well-chosen and on the pale green walls hang original works of art. From the dining room table are views onto both the cathedral and the Alcazar wall – whose crenellations are at eye level from here.

The bedroom is not grandiose, but it is very stylish, with one wall of exposed brick and a raw linen spread on the king-sized bed. A large closet separates it from the bathroom, which has deep twin sinks and a double shower with a bench.

The Villa comes with butler service and breakfast, at a low-season rate of 800 Euros a night and a high season rate of 1500.

Luxury, privacy, service and elegance are all there, but for me, the selling point is that view over Seville’s three UNESCO World Heritage buildings and the busy plaza.
