Who wouldn’t love to have Ms. Zahn’s great hair?
Her blonde-on-blonde hair color is stunning and still believable enough to
present a serious, all business appearance when she is called upon to interview world leaders. The style is soft and feminine with a no-nonsense effect.
This is a look many women can create for themselves with simple color enhancements and an expert haircut.
I’ll start with the hair color. If you happen to be a natural medium to honey blond, all you have to do to get her fabulous highlighted tone is to add varying sized strands of extra light blonde. A hairdresser should do this, using a weaving technique with a high-lift tint.
If your natural hair color is darker than medium blonde, you may want to use an all-over hair color that will lighten your hair to at least a medium blond shade. Then add the extra light blonde highlights over this base shade.
Another way to get the look is to use the color weaving method, using two or three shades of blonde. I would choose medium natural blonde, light honey blonde and extra light blonde, placing varying sized strands throughout, and leaving thin strands of your natural shade in between.
Moving on to the haircut, Ms. Zahn’s style is a form of layered bob shaped to highlight her cheekbones and soften her jaw line. This style is best when it just brushes the shoulders. That length is very feminine, however, if it falls longer than the top of the shoulders, the style will not swing freely and appear heavy.
The top layers are long enough to swing back from her face on line with her cheekbones and to cause the hair to cup in slightly at the back of her head. The lower layers stay close to the head with each side cupped slightly under her chin. The back has a blunt cut ‘look’ but is actually texturized just enough so that the ends will flip out or under easily
This hair cut is shaped for styling ease. Shampoo, condition and apply styling mousse or gel as usual. Blow-dry the top area for fullness. You will use only large Velcro rollers or an extra large curling iron to give a slight bend and fullness to the top and crown of the hairstyle. Blow the lower layers straight and close to the head. The ends can remain straight, curved under or flipped out. Use a small amount of spray wax or hair crème for control and finish with flexible hold hair spray.
