Oven Fried Onion Rings Prepare fresh, flavorful, golden brown onion rings, ready to serve and enjoy, without the hassle of deep frying. - 3 cups buttermilk, regular or low-fat
- 1 extra large white sweet onion, such as Vidalia
- non-stick cooking spray
- 2 cups dry bread crumbs
- 2 tsp. paprika
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
Preparation - Peel the onion. Cut the onion into slices, about 1/4 inch thick. Separate the slices into individual rings. Place the buttermilk and onion rings in a covered bowl or a sealed plastic bag. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours. Spray a large cookie sheet (with sides) or a jellyroll pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside. Mix the bread crumbs and seasonings together in a deep mixing bowl. Remove the onion rings from from the buttermilk, one at a time. Dip each ring in the bread crumb/seasoning mixture. Lay the coated rings in a single layer on the prepared pan. Lightly spray the coated onion rings with non-stick cooking spray. Bake in a preheated oven at 400º for about 20 minutes, or until crisp and golden brown. |
