Hosting A Game Night

If you have ever served sandwiches at your card games, you are almost paying homage to John Montagu, the Earl of Sandwich.

The Hawaiian Islands were originally called The Sandwich Islands by the British James Cook. He named them the Sandwich Islands after John Montagu, who was a supporter of the voyages of James Cook.

John Montagu was the fourth Earl of Sandwich. Among his many accomplishments, he also loved playing cards. When cards games got long, which he immensely enjoyed; he did not want to stop gambling long enough to eat.

Supposedly he asked for some meat, during one long running card game. He did not want to get his hands greasy, so he asked that the meat be put between two slices of bread. So began the sandwich industry according to legend.
With that in mind, here are some ideas for sandwiches for your next card game hosting duties.

Cuban sandwiches are always good for crowds. They usually come about a foot long, or more. If you cut them into two inch pieces and place a toothpick on top to hold them together, you can feed a few people.

Many submarine shops will do the same thing. They make the submarine sandwich, from the variety that they have, to your specifications. After that, the subs are either cut up for individual servings or left whole.
You could always set up a taco bar. This way everyone gets to make their own sandwich to fit their individual tastes. Some ingredients include ground beef in a taco sauce, lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, diced onions, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.

One easy sandwich to make is a meatball sandwich. If you do not like to cook or prepare much, this recipe is very simple. Buy precooked and frozen meatballs at your local supermarket. Set them in a slow cooker on low about four hours before the game. Add tomato sauce of your choice from the pizza or spaghetti sauce offerings. Purchase some hoagie rolls or individual servings of French loaves to put the meatballs in when they are done.

Buying potato salad or macaroni salad and other accompaniments at the deli section should help you round out your host duties very well.
