Meeting People

No matter whether you are looking to expand your circle of friends or you are looking for someone to have a romantic relationship with, the key is to meet new people. College can be a great opportunity to get to know new and interesting people, but you have to know where to look. There are many possible places to find fellow students to befriend. See the list below for ideas to get to meet others:

Campus social events
There are likely to be many social events on your campus. The college itself may organize events designed for student to meet one another. In addition, many campus organizations have events where all students are welcome to attend.

Class
You are with other students each day when you go to class. Introduce yourself to some of your classmates. This is often easiest in interactive courses such as science labs or physical education. However, even in larger classes, you can talk to the people next to you before or after class. You can also attend or form study groups to meet classmates.

Clubs and organizations
Join a campus group you find interesting. This will allow you to meet others who enjoy the same activities as you do.

Hangout spots
Visit spots where other students spend a lot of time. These may include the student union, the library, a residence hall lounge, the campus lawn, or laundry rooms. Introduce yourself to others around you.

Through friends
Once you have a few friends, you can meet other students through those friends. Not only can you can meet the friends of your friends, but you can also meet others while being out with your friends. When you have an opportunity to go places with your friends, take advantage of those opportunities.

Volunteer work
Doing volunteer work can be a good way to meet fellow students and do some good at the same time. Search for volunteer opportunities supporting causes you care about that have other student volunteers.

Work
Having a part-time job can be a great way to meet other students and earn some extra money at the same time. Search for employers on or near campus that hire multiple college students.

When you are looking to make new friends or seeking romantic relationships, participate in things that you are interested in to meet people with common interests. And, try new and different activities to get to know a diverse group of people to help you learn more about the world and yourself.
