Shannon McKenna's Extreme Danger

Hello, and welcome back! We're getting another taste of spring temps here--my flowering bulbs are coming up a little too early to suit me now. My February stack of review romances is enormous, and getting taller by the day it seems, so I'm hoping to get several new reviews up for you this week.

First up this week is the new Shannon McKenna, Extreme Danger (Brava). Becca Cattrell has simple plans: spend some time in a borrowed house to get over the very public end of her engagement to a cheat. Things get quickly complicated when she decides to come out of her shell and go for a dip in the neighbor's pool. Only the former owner of the pool is no longer there, but a big, dangerous man with a gun is. Nick Ward is working solo on an undercover op that will likely be his last, and Becca's arrival is definitely not in his plans. But his suspicions about her aren't true: she's just got the world's worst timing, with his new Russian mobster 'boss' arriving any time. Despite their rough start, Becca and Nick can't seem to stay apart, though her return is timed even worse than her initial visit, and she's forced to play the part of chef to the criminals now in residence with Nick, though they'd like her to play a completely different role. The chemistry between this pair is absolutely explosive. But Nick has major trust issues, not just from his job, but from his youth, and just when he thinks his life has turned around with Becca, something happens that makes him believe she's betrayed him. Still, he can't let the evil man who destroyed his own life hurt her. As one expects with a Shannon McKenna book, this story is hot. Frankly, I think it's even hotter than her last one, and that was pretty sexy. I love this book. The suspense is great, but what always pulls me into her stories are the characters, the complications that shouldn't allow them to be together, and the way she works it until they actually can get that happy ever after. Her books are always keepers, and this is no exception. It's earned four and a half of Cupid's five arrows. Fantastic!

Until next time, happy reading!
