And to get all of us in the mood for some lovely men in kilts, I have Hope Tarr's Untamed (Medallion) today, with a Scottish hero deterimined to woo and win his lady, a la The Taming of the Shrew. Patrick O'Rourke's life didn't start off very well, but a chance encounter with the then-prime minister sets him on a different course. Now grown, the rough Scot is determined to win Lady Katherine Lindsey for his wife. But his Kate's own life isn't quite what he might have imagined, and it's made her wary, even as she cares for those around her. Except, of course, for Patrick, or Rourke as his friends call him. So Rourke resorts to tricking her into marriage, which doesn't make her any happier, nor does it start their married life off on quite the right foot. Then again, carting her off in the midst of her wedding breakfast to the wilds of Scotland and his unprepared castle wasn't perhaps his best choice either. Rourke realizes before too long that he needs better advice than Shakespeare can offer, because he wants more than he'd imagined from his Kate and he has no clue how to go about truly wooing her. Rourke is a charming hero, and Kate an intriguing heroine. This one isn't as steamy as some of Ms. Tarr's other works, but there are still plenty of sparks between this pair. I will admit, though, preferring Vanquished to this one. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this one quite well. Plus readers will get a chance to revisit Rourke's boyhood pals and their own wives. This one's earned three and a half of Cupid's five arrows.
