Tumbling Through Time

Hello, and welcome back! We've got a teeny bit more snow here, but I can still see the grass poking up through it, so it's still not enough for me. But I don't want a big snow next week, since I've got a big group booksigning scheduled at work next Saturday, and I want everyone to get there safely.

This time out, I have another debut author, Gwyn Cready, with her time travel Tumbling Through Time (Pocket). Seph Pyle likes her orderly life and her pal Tom Fraser (who could be more, if they hadn't been interrupted once upon a time). But Seph's neat existence is about to be turned upside down by a magical pair of shoes that take her back in time. Kind of. Philip 'Drum' Drummond is the main character in a book she hasn't yet written, only she's already made a real mess of things. Drum looks just like Tom, which makes things even more confusing. And the time travel thing is a real pain, when she can wind up back in the present and vice versa, without any warning. Now Drum's in trouble, and only Seph can save him. Maybe. Seph and Tom are quite a lot of fun to time travel with. This one is told in first person, which you know isn't my favorite thing, but this story pulls you right in. Seph is witty and, of course, bears past wounds that color her perceptions of her present. Then there are the obstacles she's unwittingly put in Drum's way and has to fix to save his life. And which man is she going to choose? After all, they look alike, and both know her very well, though in different ways. Makes that decision just a little bit more difficult to make. Then there are the pieces of real history Seph has somehow worked into her story that make saving Drum even more of a challenge. As I said earlier, this one is a lot of fun, with the wise-cracking heroine and her time-jumping story. This one's earned three and a half of Cupid's five arrows. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author.

Until next time, happy reading!
