This time out, I have Robin Wells's Between the Sheets (Grand Central Forever). Emma Jamison has her own butler business, and she's taking care of a regular client's home while they're away and the president-elect is visiting instead. Unfortunately, when the married old lech dies in bed with a hooker, then the Secret Service bundles Emma out in a hurry, the press believes Emma is to blame. The fallout from the scandal sends her to Louisiana and the small town where her grandparents lived, where her gram still lives, though in an assisted living community now while Emma resides in their old house. The press is still hounding her, and she's just trying to keep her head down and move on with her life. Max Duval comes to her rescue when she's recognized in a mom and pop store, and then they go for snowcones. Except Max doesn't believe her, which puts a kibosh on any blossoming feelings she might have for him beyond the gratitude for saving her from obnoxious store clerks with cell phone cameras. Max is running for re-election as D. A., so he really can't afford to be linked with the most notorious woman in the country, but he can't seem to resist her either. Pretty soon, he's got a P.I. looking into the situation, continuing the investigation that Emma used up all her money on. Then there are their grandparents, both residents of the home where Emma's working, and the old folks are getting in on the romance action as well. This one is sweet and funny, with the grandfolks getting into trouble quite often. Emma makes an unexpected friend along the way as well, and I admit, I enjoyed that part of the story as much as the romance. Every girl should have a friend like Katie. Max and Emma are fun, and I enjoyed this one, but I'm not sure I'd classify it as a keeper. I will say, though, that I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. I'm sure she's got a bright future in romance. This one's earned three and a half of Cupid's five arrows.
