No Control

Hello, and welcome back! I have the last of the February books this time out, though I'm about two weeks into the March releases already in my reading, and there are some good March books about to hit the bookstores.

Shannon K. Butcher's No Control (Grand Central Forever) is our last February romance. Lana Hancock still lives in fear, a year and a half after her miraculous rescue from the terrorist group called the Swarm. And now Caleb Stone, who was working undercover to stop the group, is back in her life, which doesn't mean anything good is about to happen. Apparently, his bosses are concerned about things they've been hearing, things that make them believe the Swarm isn't as dead as they'd hoped. But Lana doesn't want Caleb around, doesn't want any more reminders of the tortures she suffered. She just wants to build up her children's foundation and for Caleb to go away. Caleb, however, isn't going anywhere. He couldn't help her then, but he can help her now, and he won't let anyone hurt her again. But the last few people involved with the group are determined to finish off Lana, the last surviving witness to their atrocities, and if they have to take out some of the people closest to her along the way, well, so much the better. Lana has had to toughen up to survive after her ordeal, but she's not tough enough to withstand Caleb's gentle persistence. I liked this one well enough, though there were many times during the reading that I noted similarities to one of my favorites, Shannon McKenna. Unfortunately, as I was reading this one, I noted also that Ms. McKenna is still better. Caleb, as the strong and Alpha type, is an appealing hero. Lana's appeal is in her determination, but she has moments where I wanted so smack her and tell her not to be stupid. It's not a keeper, but it was an enjoyable way to spend my Sunday afternoon. I'm giving this one three of Cupid's five arrows. And rereading Extreme Danger while waiting for Shannon McKenna's next book.

Until next time, happy reading!
