Silent Run

Hello, and welcome back! The March romances are proving interesting reading, some good, some not so, and I've put a rather large dent in this stack. I have about half a dozen yet to read, though they may not all make it here. Any that don't rate a full review will be listed instead in the forum.

This time out, I have Barbara Freethy's newest romantic supsense, Silent Run (Onyx). Sarah Tucker wakes up in the hospital, with no idea how she got there, or even who she is. Then Jake Sanders arrives, and his claims paint her in a rather unflattering light. It seems she disappeared months ago with their daughter, and he's been searching for them ever since. But Sarah doesn't have their daughter with her, doesn't remember if the baby was in her car when she had her accident. And it seems Jake will only get his daughter back by working with Sarah to regain her memory, to retrace her footsteps for the last months and weeks. Jake thought they were perfect together, until the day Sarah and Caitlyn disappeared without a trace. He doesn't want to still care about Sarah, but her pain touches him despite his best efforts. Someone is after Sarah, and they'll stop at nothing to silence her forever, even hurting those she loves, those who've helped her along the way. It's a difficult task, retracing months' worth of running, when you can't even remember who you really are, and that's only one of the hurdles Sarah faces. At every turn, someone is there, ready to kill her, trying to kill her, and she doesn't know why. But along the way, she and Jake fall in love all over again, though neither thinks it can possibly work out. Along with the tension of the chase, there are tangled emotions here, heightening the story and the reader's enjoyment of it. Freethy is great at this, which is exactly why she's an auto-buy for me. I just wish she wrote faster, so we didn't have to wait so long between books guaranteed to be keepers. This one's earned four and a half of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
