Elder Abuse Resources

Elder abuse victims often don't know where to turn for help. Senior Citizens are especially vulnerable to domestic violence, because as we age our support system of family and friends tends to grow smaller. Isolation at home, in a nursing home or assisted living center can make this horrible crime difficult to discover.

Often the intervention of a family member or friend is the deciding factor that stops the abuse. Below are a list of sites that provide fact sheets on how to spot abuse, resources on where to get help and support for victims.

American Society of Adult Abuse Professionals and Survivors
This site focuses on elderly and disabled adult victims of abuse in all situations, including private homes, nursing homes and group homes. Provides resources for social workers, caregivers, family members and victims.

National Center on Elder Abuse
Established by U.S. Administration on Aging, this site provides a wide variety of information, educational resources and assistance for elderly victims and there families.

National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life
If you are looking for training or resources for yourself or an organization that provides services to the elderly, the NCALL can provide information and materials. You can request assistance via e-mail, telephone, regular mail or in person.

National Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse
This organization works to put the spot light on elder abuse, by providing education and advocating for victims.

Elder Abuse Hotlines
Listing of state helplines and websites that provide help with elder abuse.

Nursing Home Abuse News
Would you know what to do if you suspected a loved one was being abused while a resident in a nursing home? The NHAN provides information on resident's rights, how to spot abuse and how to file a complaint.

National Domestic Violence Hotline
Provides a variety of assistance for all types of domestic abuse including the elderly, teens and immigrants. They can be contacted via phone or email.

National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
This site provides resources and information about how to deal with domestic violence and where to get help.

Domestic Abuse Helpline
Most people think of women and children when anyone mentions domestic abuse, but men can also be victims. This sites provides assistance to all victims of abuse, but puts an equal focus on helping men and women of any age who are victims.
