Right Here, Right Now by HelenKay Dimon

Hello, and welcome back! Since we're just a few days away from the official start of spring, I've given up hope of getting my snow this winter. Perhaps next winter we'll actually have wintry weather to go with the season here. We're getting plenty of spring showers, however, which makes for plenty of reading time, because it's too messy for yard work so far.

This time, I have the next book from HelenKay Dimon, Right Here, Right Now (Brava). Gabby Pearson really liked Reed Larkin. Right up until he dumped her over dinner a month into their promising relationship. Reed was just doing his job, he thought, only now he's got some groveling to do to get her back, because his job is a little more complicated than he realized. Fortunately, he really liked Gabby, too, and now he's just got to persuade her he's sincere about it, and, oh yeah, not let her know he's also working undercover. Funny thing is, Gabby's also working undercover, and they're working on the same case, for different agencies. I'm not sure where to start with this one. I didn't like the opening of the story at all. Theoretically, getting even, publicly, with the guy dumping one over dinner should be funny. It's not really funny here, however, just awkward. Then there's the matter of how easily Gabby lets Reed back into her life--and bed. Sure, she professes not to fully trust him, but that doesn't stop her from jumping in with both feet. They have plenty of hot sex, which may satisfy some readers, but the rest of the story just fell flat for me, I'm afraid. Some of the secondary characters don't feel fully drawn, just caricatures of what they could be, which didn't make me like it any better. I wanted to like it. I just didn't. And the case they're both working on is just scenery throughout the story. This one just didn't work on any level for me, so it's not a keeper and has earned only two of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
