Creative Exercising with Theme Songs

If you are into aerobics, when a catchy theme song comes on, why not make an exercise routine to it? Use moves you remember from cheerleading or your own aerobics classes. If you were never into cheerleading or aerobics, here are some moves described below that you could possibly use.

Stand with your feet spread a little distance apart at the sides. Take your left arm and bring it to the front of the right side of your body as if you were trying to punch someone. Put it back down. Now, repeat with your right arm going to the left side of your body.

That could be used with “The Beverly Hillbillies” theme when they say, “oil that is, black gold, Texas tea” and “Hills that is, swimming pools, movie stars”. One move would go with each set of words. That would be a total of 3 repetitions just in those parts of the song alone.

“Green Acres” has another theme song where those motions could be used. “Park Square, fresh air, the stores, the chores” are phrases where those same motions would fit.

While watching reruns of “The Andy Griffith Show” or “Gomer Pyle, USMC”, or even “M*A*S*H”, try marching in place to the theme songs. Kick your knees up and high as you can get them while marching. Swing your arms in rhythm to the music and get them working as well.

Do you have any favorite dance moves? Would they fit well with any theme song you hear? “The Dick Van Dyke Show” had a very catchy theme song that could incorporate many dance moves. To imitate falling for example, try bouncing down with your feet spread out a little and try touching the ground.

“Gilligan’s Island” theme song has infinite possibilities for moves to use. Make good use of any moves you know to ward off the cravings for coconut cream pie. You could use that time to do jumping jacks as if you were trying to signal a ship for rescue.

“Three and a Half Men” has a theme song that is great for more specific moves like squat thrusts or knee bends. Now, when watching the show, they do not always play the theme song the whole way through, so grab use of the time when you can.

The “gym” you have at home is free; why not make use of it? Hopefully, this article will help put some action into your TV watching. Get your creativity flowing and move a little out of your rut. Invite some friends over for healthy snacks and some TV exercising.
