This time out, I have Mary Margret Daughtridge's SEALed With a Kiss (Sourcebooks). Jax Graham hasn't spent much time with his young son since his birth--being a SEAL requires a lot of time and effort, and Jax's wife divorced him a long time ago, taking Tyler with her. Now Jax's ex is dead, and her mother wants full custody of young Tyler. But Jax's commanding officer sends him off to spend a month with his son before making such a big decision. Therapist Pickett Sessoms is just doing a favor for a family friend when she sees the unhappy little boy on the beach with his strapping, handsome father who apparently has no idea what to do with a small boy. Oh, and a hurricane's on the way to their neck of the coast. Long story short, Jax and Tyler need a place to stay, and Pickett is too soft-hearted to send them out into the storm. I thought this one had a lot of potential, but it didn't quite get there for me. Jax isn't a very sympathetic figure; sure, he's a tough SEAL, but even most military men have some clue that you don't speak to a four-year-old the same way you speak to a fellow soldier, or with the same bad language. And Pickett, well, she lets her Southern family walk all over her and talk down to her. Not to mention the things she does in the name of helping Jax with his son. If you can get past that, this one is sweet, as opposed to really sexy. I didn't love it, however. It's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows, and I'm being generous because of the lovely little boy here.
