Worst Week Review

Have you ever tried your best to make a good impression and please someone, only to have everything you do end up disastrous? That is the premise behind the show, “Worst Week”.

On the US version of the BBC series, “The Worst Week of My Life”; the four main characters are Sam Briggs and his now wife Melanie along with Melanie’s parents, Angela and Dick Clayton.

Sam cannot seem to get a break with his in-laws. The mother-in-law seems to like him and is more agreeable than her husband. Dick Clayton’s character seems to know only how to frown and scowl, which cannot make it easier for poor Sam.

Reverend Lowell, played by Phillip Baker Hall, keeps walking in on Sam in all manner of unfortunate times and circumstances. The family thinks the world of him and cannot understand why Sam seemingly keeps trying to alienate the man.

The episode where Sam accidently loses one of Dick’s prized lovebirds when he feed it avocado is hilarious. He has to go through rings of fire almost to replace the bird without getting caught.

Before the wedding when Sam’s parents arrive, it is anticipated that things will not go smoothly, so lies are made up about Dick having had a stroke and that Melanie has diabetes.
