Lady Antebellum

I have really looked forward to getting this self titled CD from the new group Lady Antebellum after hearing them on XM Radio. I was not disappointed, I am in love with this release.

The first release,Love Don’t Live Here, is heading up the charts and has been in constant rotation on the country stations on XM since it’s release. The trio that make up the group, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, harmonize well and take turns thru out the CD taking the lead on vocals, a refreshing change from other groups where one person sings exclusively. Also impressive is most of the songs on their debut were written by members of the group.

Dave and Charles have been friends since middle school and Hillary met them in 2006. The trio hooked up and started writing songs not knowing what they were writing all the music for until one day they realized they had something with the way their voices blended. Capitol Records signed them to a contract in 2007 and they started working on this release. Smart move on the record companys part in my opinion. Lady A’s first single has only been out a few months and they have already been nominated for their first award, Top New Group on the ACM’s coming up in May.

One of my favorite songs All We’d Ever Need started as one of my least favorites but it has grown on me. To this listener it has a haunting tone and brings back memories of love lost or love almost lost. It reminds you to go after what is important to you, don’t take for granted that the person you love knows it, you have to tell them.

Run to You is about having a safe place with someone you care about when things get to be too much. Home is Where the Heart Is is about actually finding out that a house isn’t a home, it’s where you find love.

You have probably heard Love Don’t Live Here on the radio, it was inspired by a breakup that Charles went thru in his personal life. How many of us are actually strong enough to tell that person that has hurt us badly that we are over them and don’t want to be with them anymore.

Things People Say is a song about hurt and trying to move on after someone leaves. They had planned a life, found a house and the other person took off to find themselves.

There isn’t a song on this CD that could be considered filler, they all stand on their own and Lady Antebellum is making their mark on country music. My suggestion is run, don’t walk, to get this and give it a listen.
