Journaling Colors

Spring brings so many vibrant colors into the world once again. Color is everywhere in spring and they seem new and fresh. Colors we are drawn to express our deepest emotions without saying a word. Over the next few weeks we will explore colors, their definitions and how they speak without words.

This color journal will be different from all other types of journals most of you have kept. The purpose will be to understand colors and how they relate to your world. So let’s review some of the most important elements of color.

Red

This is the first primary color of the spectrum. It is an emotional color triggering a sense of power. Read symbolizes impulsive actions and is associated with sexuality. You will find many fine dining restaurants with a red color scheme as this color increases one’s appetite. Be careful how you use red because it might shout anger, impatience, intimidation, violence, revenge or forcefulness.

The first week you will want to explore the color red.
∙ On your first observe the color red in your home
∙ On the second day observe the color red in your neighborhood
∙ On the third day observe the color red at the workplace
∙ On the fourth day observe the color red in nature
∙ On the fifth day observe the color red in your wardrobe and personal items
∙ On the sixth day observe the color red in the world around you
∙ On the seventh day consider the color red.

Journal each day about what you observe, the feelings invoked and the opposite emotions. When you reach the seventh day you can then consider what the color red says about who you are. What are your strengths and weaknesses you see in the color red?.

Yellow

Yellow is the second of the three primary colors. Eyes do not focus easily on the color yellow. Being brighter than white yellow is seen as strong and deeply emotional. Yellow stimulates memory and is why you find most memo pads or notepads being pale yellow. Intelligence, joy and organization are the emotions that yellow triggers. Some negative aspects of yellow are feelings of criticism, laziness or cynicism. Many use splashes of yellow to capture one’s attention. When used to grab one’s attention it can help hold what you read in your memory banks.

This color will show up in journal writing more often in subtle ways.

Spend this week exploring the color yellow.

Blue

Blue is the final primary color. Your eyes focus on blue the easiest of all the primary colors probably because it generates feelings of love, acceptance, understanding and tranquility. Opposite feelings generated by blue are fear, coldness and depression. When one does not feel loved one feels depressed so the opposite feelings are strong in revealing where our heart is.
