This time out, I have the second book by Laura Griffin, whose first book I quite enjoyed last fall. One Wrong Step (Pocket Star) follows Celie Wells, best pal of Feenie from One Last Breath. She's since divorced her thieving hubby and is now carving out a life for herself as a single woman, working at a shelter for women and children, among other things. The last thing she needs is sexy reporter John McAllister coming back into her life. But when her ex is killed, McAllister is right there, and she fears she's just a story. But John's had his eye on her for a long time, though his timing was never the best. Now, however, Celie is all his, and he'll do whatever he can to protect her from the thugs looking for their money. He just can't promise anything beyond the present. And the criminals are persistent and not above using people Celie cares about to get to her. As in her last book, this one is filled with humor and intrigue, not to mention the amazing chemistry between Celie and John. There's a secondary romantic couple here, and I sincerely hope they get their story told soon, though it won't be in her next release this fall, which looks like a completely separate story. We also get to revisit Feenie and Marco, which was a real treat for me. But I very much enjoyed Celie and John, who's a fantastic bad boy, even after his reformation: just the right amount of sex appeal and strength. Good stuff. This one's earned four of Cupid's five arrows. October seems a long time away while we wait for her next book.
Until next time, happy reading!
