These Boots Were Made for Strutting

Hello, and welcome back! It's cooler here again, and raining. I've just about made it through the May romances, with two more currently to share with you, so I've dug into the June books already. I'm hoping the June offerings are better than May's.

This time out, we have the anthology These Boots Were Made for Strutting (Love Spell) with stories from Lisa Cach, Gemma Halliday, and Melanie Jackson, with the continuing adventures of women shopping at hiheelia.com. 'A Rose by Any Other Name' from Cach leads things off with landscaper Kelsey Safire and her latest client Jack Lovgren. They don't get off to the best of starts, with a very inauspicious meeting, but Kelsey is a pro, at work anyway. It's the personal side of her life she's not so good at, but when she gets a magic pair of shoes, things start turning around, and with Jack, who seems at first to be way out of her league. Halliday's 'So I Dated an Axe Murderer' is next, with Kya and Alec Davis hooking up when Kya's magic shoes take her dancing and get her noticed by a modeling scout, but Alec's last shoe model girlfriend didn't end up so well, and Kya may be headed in the same direction. 'And They Danced' by Jackson stars Faith and the hunky Avel who get partnered in a dance competition where her magic shoes let her shine at last. But not for too long. My favorite story is the first one. The romance here is the best developed, and Jack and Kelsey's romance lends itself to some laughs along the way. Halliday's story didn't grab me; her stories tend to be more mystery than romance, and this one's told in first person, which is not my favorite POV. But I'm torn between which of the last two is my least favorite: the Jackson story didn't move very quickly, and the romance didn't come across as especially believable. Ah, well. I suppose if nothing else, you can go check out the website these heroines are shopping from and get your own shoes, magic not included. I'm borrowing only three of Cupid's five arrows for this one.

Until next time, happy reading!
