Something About Me is a game that you can play at a party, at a work meeting for an icebreaker, in training classes, and home parties just to name a few. You need at least five people, a pen for each, a facilitator, and a deck of index cards.
Each person participating takes an index card or two. On each card they write down a little known fact about themselves that they do not expect other people to know. They put their names at the bottom and hand the card, or cards, to the facilitator.
The facilitator will then mix up the cards by shuffling. He or she will then read aloud the statement on the first card. The other participants can either guess out loud or write down on a piece of paper who they think the person is.
Whether you decide to get through all of the cards and then reveal the person behind the statement, or just guess out loud; give the person behind the statement a chance to tell about what they wrote. This is a wonderful, fun way to get to know about the people you thought you knew before or the people you just met.
What is written on the cards should be the truth. If you don’t feel like talking much about your private life, you could say something like; “I never had a pony growing up”. Many children didn’t and it is not exactly very revealing.
BABY SHOWERS: You can play the game as described above in the article, or you can make is special for baby showers. To make it just for a baby shower, have guests at the party to put their name on an index card with a tip for the new mother-to-be. The tip can be based on what they went through with their children, or what they did as children. This way everyone can play whether or not they have children.
WORK TRAINING or ICEBREAKER: Many places that put new employees through training also take breaks and play games based on teamwork, thought processes and logic, or just plain fun games. This game is great as an icebreaker.
HOME PARTIES: Before you do your demonstration, play this game to warm up the guests. It is one way to get to know them better.
MEETINGS: Sometimes companies give people a chance to run the meeting or start the meeting off with something fun. This would be a great way to start a meeting. It is especially effective in helping to “wake up” the participants on a Monday morning.
