When He Was Bad

Hello, and welcome back! It's hot and sticky here, which means it's also stormy, so it's a good time for me to read through some more of the June books here on my desk. This time out, I have one with two paranormal stories to share with you.

Shelly Laurenston and Cynthia Eden's When He Was Bad (Brava) features two Alpha male heroes with extra-special abilities. First up, Laurenston's 'Miss Congeniality' has had prickly Professor Irene Conridge dodging the sexy Niles Van Holtz for some time now, and she has no intention of stopping. Except that when she's getting rid of something she came up with in her lab, she unwittingly gets caught in an area deadly to humans who happen there. She's doing so-so at defending herself, but she's vastly outnumbered, so Van comes to the rescue when other shifters would kill her. His rescue puts them both in a sticky situation, however, forcing him to do something he never intended to do, and Irene to spend time in close quarters with him, which might just change her perception of this former playboy. And of herself. Irene is funny, and Van is, of course, sexy as all get out, which makes this one a lot of fun for readers. I very much enjoyed this 'prequel' to her ongoing shifter series. Eden's 'Wicked Ways' has Miranda Shaw finding out her seemingly perfect date is a vampire set on killing her, but her studly new neighbor Cain Lawson coming to the rescue. Of course, that just annoys the vampire more, which means werewolf Cain has to stick with Miranda, for her protection, of course. Not because he wants to jump her bones. Nope, not at all. And it takes a little while for Miranda to acclimate to this new world she finds herself in, with creatures she thought were just out of horror movies. Miranda's got a few ideas that don't necessarily show her in the best light, but I enjoyed this story a lot more than her last book. Still not a keeper for me, but it was sexy. Cain is a worthy hero, and rather yummy. For the Laurenston story alone, this one gets four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
