Dark and Dangerous (Zebra) by debut author Jeanne Adams is out in June. Dana Markham has been living on the run and in hiding for a long time now, changing her name and her young son's name, but her criminal ex-husband just won't give up on getting his son back, and he'll go to any lengths to accomplish that. This time, though, FBI agent Caine Bradley is working undercover in Donovan's group of thugs. Trouble is, no one told Dana to expect one of the good guys to come along with the bad guys, so when she sets her own plans in motion, Caine is injured. After managing an escape, Dana and Caine have to stay on the move, one step ahead of the bad guys, to keep her son safe from the man determined to have him back. Neither is in a good position for beginning a relationship, but Dana can't help thinking how nice it would be to stay in one place with Caine, and he can't help thinking that he'd love to be part of her family. But Donovan has plans for his son that don't include his ex-wife living happily ever after with a law enforcement agent, or living at all. And someone involved in the case is leaking information to Donovan about Dana and Caine's whereabouts. This one is packed with action, maybe a little too much action. Sometimes, it's nice to have a breather, a period where the hero and heroine get to relax and really get to know one another. I wanted to like this one more than I actually did like it, unfortunately. I wasn't wild about Dana, and Caine, well, I didn't fall in love with him the way I'd hoped to. This one was just okay for me, but not a keeper. It's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows.
Until next time, happy reading!
