Guiding Light's turnaround

Guiding Light is reviving itself. It’s been a while since I did an article highlighting storylines from Guiding Light, and with good reason. Lately, the soap has been lackluster at best. But with summer coming, the show is starting to show signs of life again.

In order to protect his dad’s memory, Rafe shot Jeffrey. Now with Jeffrey recovering, Rafe is on the run. This is a sad turn of events for Rafe, who moves to a new town with his mother, finds his father, and falls in love; all within a year’s span. He is a kid with many issues. But it seemed that those issues were subsiding when he chose to accept Gus as his father. Now, after losing his father, Rafe’s life is in a tailspin. He is depressed and lashing out at everyone that crosses his path. Rafe was finally pushed over the edge when, after realizing that his father’s memory might be tainted, he shot Jeffrey in a desperate act. Rafe is now a fugitive.

While Rafe may be out of control, Lizzie has absolutely no excuses for her erratic behavior. Years ago, she attempted to trap Cooper into thinking Sara was his baby when actually Jonathan was the father. She started having an attraction towards Bill and has tried hard to have him see things her way. From day one, Bill has made clear that he does not want a serious relationship with Lizzie. Jonathan and Cooper had the same discussion with Lizzie and she didn’t listen to either one of them. What makes it even crazier is that Ava and Lizzie keep running after the same man. Ever since Ava has turned into a mini Olivia, she is taking extreme measures to keep Bill’s attention.

On a side note, Guiding Light has started a new trend. With the integration of their new digital format, Guiding Light has another soap following in their footsteps: As the World Turns. I have noticed the subtle changes - especially the outdoor scenes with Emily and Chris. It’s better when the format is presented in small doses. As you’re watching the soap opera, it’s nice to see the change of scenery. Which format do you like better?
