Our bodies and minds require regular rest to renew, refresh and to heal in order to remain healthy and strong. God has expounded in His Word the importance of rest as shown in these verses.
On the sixth day God completed all the work that he had done, and on the seventh day God rested from all the work that he had done. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all the work of creation. Genesis 2:2-3 (Common English Bible)
Six days you shall do your work and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed. Exodus 23:12 (New King James Version)
We live in such a fast paced world and we are often chasing after money to acquire more and more neglecting our own bodies, but without good health money becomes nothing but useless paper because it cannot heal broken bodies.
We labor and have no rest. Lamentations 5:5 (New King James Version)
Money cannot give peaceful rest which is apparent with the many suicides of some of the most influential and successful people.
The Bible tells us how to have true rest.
Rest Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7 (New King James Version)
The peaceful rest for our body and mind can only be found in having a personal relationship with God and standing on His Word.
My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14 (New International Version)
We must continue to build our strength in God and His Word which will allow us to have confidence that whatever we are going through He is able to bring us through. When you are able to trust God and to know that your steps are ordered, then you can lay down at night and go to sleep. Tossing, turning and stressing have never been a solution to any problem. The body will begin to break down as your mental stress increases, so you have to learn to let go and let God work it out.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest
. Matthew 11:28 (New International Version)
