“Aunt Millie’s Garden-12 Flowering Blocks”
C & T has released a complete block-of-the-month series of garden quilt patterns. Now you can plan and create a quilt without waiting month after month. “Aunt Millie’s Garden” from Piece O’ Cake Designs is by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkinks.
This appliqué quilt features an exquisite flower block for each month. Appliquéd flowers and vines on the border create a perfect setting. The individual blocks are also perfect for pillows and wall hangings as well. This project is perfect for using up scraps of material you have on hand.
There is a list of the materials you’ll need, and cutting charts. It has full-size appliqué patterns and easy to follow instructions from start to finish. This tells how to make your templates, apply the appliqués, and finish the quilt. The authors also include many helpful tips along the way.
“A Little House”
“A Little House” by Kathy Schmitz was published by Four Corners Designs. This cheery summer quilt combines easy pieced blocks and appliqué with some hand embroidery for embellishment. The prominent colors are red, blue, and green. In the center of the pieced strips is an appliquéd bird house with two blue birds framed by branches of a cherry tree.
The pattern has a handy chart showing what fabrics will be needed. This design features simple and easy instructions from start to finish. It includes full size templates for the appliqué along with a placement chart showing in what order they should be applied.
There is also a step-by-step cutting chart for the pieced blocks and borders along with complete, illustrated directions on how to assemble the quilt top. This also has tips on finishing the quilt and binding.
Suitable for beginners, this design has easy, no-fail instructions for sewing triangles, which can normally be tricky for beginners. There is also a template for doing the embroidery with illustrated instructions on all the embroidery stitches.
“Through the Seasons-Verses of Wisdom”
This is a new block of the month quilt series by designer Sarah Sporrer, published by Indygo Junction.
The individual blocks are suitable for pillows, wall hangings, or other small projects. The twelve blocks can also be combined to create a stunning quilt, 42 inches by 56 inches. Each of the twelve patterns is available in booklet form. Of the twelve quilt blocks, six of these feature plants or garden produce. For April, there are lovely daffodils. In May, sunflowers make their appearance. Each of the patterns contains full size appliqués.
The patterns come with complete, easy to follow instructions from start to finish. There is a list of materials needed for each block with suggestions for doing the embroidery and completing the quilt.
“Reverie Rhapsody Album”
This is the first release in a new quilt series by Ricky Tims. The Legacy Quilt series is published by JWD Publishing. This gorgeous quilt features appliqués that resemble fern fronds or exotic orchid blooms.
The overall effect is much like that of Hawaiian appliqué. The appliquéd dots serve to reinforce the floral theme. The colors are what one would expect to see in a garden—lots of green, red, yellow and orange along with some blues. Appliquéd blocks make up the outer border. The center also has appliquéd blocks along with triangles cleverly arranged to create a diagonal effect.
This pattern includes easy to follow, illustrated instructions and full size appliqués for a double/queen bed quilt.
