Soul of a Highlander

Hello, and welcome back! I'm waiting for the big storms to roll through later and, theoretically, cool things off a little bit. It's not often I look forward to violent weather and heavy rain, but after the horrible temperatures and humidity we've had the last week or so, I'm ready for them.

This time out, I have the latest from Melissa Mayhue in her Guardians series, Soul of a Highlander (Pocket). One of the baddies from the previous book in the series, Highland Guardian, Ramos Servans had a change of heart last time, and now he's on a mission to right the wrongs of his father. Right now, that involves saving Mairi MacKiernan from herself, and the men who would do harm to the women of her family. Mairi went from medieval Scotland to the present, and now she's gone back again to save the last woman of her family from being killed in 1295. But which one? And how? And how on earth is she going to resist Ramos? But Ramos has no plans of involvement, just of making up for the things his father's done, and the things he himself did while believing his father's lies. Ramos can't possibly resist one Scottish lass, however, no matter how good his intentions. But his father's reach is long, and the danger Ramos and Mairi face doesn't bode well for a happy ending. A good time travel romance wrapped up in a good paranormal romance...what more can a romance reader ask for? How about a great tortured hero who's sexy as hell, and a heroine who's more than his match, never giving up on either her hero or believing they'll do what they set out to do? It's always interesting to see if an author can manage to pull off a transformation of a villain to a good guy, and Mayhue does it very nicely here with Ramos. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how this series progresses, and this was a great installment along the way. I'm borrowing three and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. Good stuff.

Until next time, happy reading!
