Owl Finch Jigsaw Puzzle

This picture of a pair of beautiful Owl Finches was submitted by Mark Bratka for use as a jigsaw puzzle. In the background is a Parrot Finch, who will be appearing shortly in another jigsaw puzzle of his own. Mark has a website at Assorted Avian Topics that you might find interesting.

As always, you can make this puzzle harder (or easier) by changing the shape and number of puzzles pieces. You may have to scroll over to get the whole puzzle in your window.

This bird is known by a few different common names. They can be called owl finch or bicheno finch or double barred finch. The scientific name is Peophila Taeniopygia Bochenovii. They are very pretty birds, even though they do not have bright colours.

They are one of the smaller finches that originate in Australia. They do well in a community aviary with a selection of other finches as well as some the more docile parakeets (not budgies).

The male sings a soft little song and the female has some quiet little beep sounds, so they are certainly not noisy litle birds.
