Are you an animal lover? Would you prefer to work with pets all day long? Why not start your own business working with animals? Here are several ideas for easy-to-start pet businesses:
Dog Walker: Busy people just do not have time to walk their dogs. And, some people just do not want to walk. So, there are many opportunities for business for someone who loves both. You would take dogs out for a daily walk, either one at a time, or several at a time. While you never want to have more dogs than you can safely handle, you could increase your income quite a bit by adding more dogs.
Pet Groomer: Pet grooming basics like bathing, brushing and trimming are always in demand. Most people learn these skills by apprenticing with experienced groomers, or just by practicing on their own animals.
Pet Sitter: Pet owners who want or have to go out of town often struggle to find someone to take care of their pets while they are away. You could arrange your pet sitting business anyway you want, too. You could offer basic feeding, watering, walking services for one day or multiple days all the way up to overnight stays.
Pet Bakery: Pets are foodies, too! There are several gourmet pet food stores where pet owners can buy special food or treats for their pets. Make sure all your products are vet-approved since some seemingly safe items can cause pretty bad reactions (including death) in some animals.
Pet Accessories: From fashions to fancy collars to personalized water bowls to special blankets and pillows, the pet accessory business is huge. If you sew, you can make pet clothes. If you make jewelry, you could make pet jewelry. And so on.
You could also offer add-on services to your pet business, such as taking pets to the vet for their annual check-ups, caring for pets other than your basic dog or cat (gerbils, guinea pigs, reptiles), pet habitat cleaning and more.
Before you start: Talk to your insurance provider about what kind of insurance coverage you need, and find out from your local authorities if you need a Business License.
And, if you find you do love working with pets, you can always expand your business! There are pet spas, pet hotels, and pet daycares out there already. The only real limit is your imagination and creativity.
