Psychic Kids in Hiding

12:45 am, “Mom, a man’s coming to visit…” as if waiting for the rest of the sentence to follow, Justin’s mom, Sinder, coaxes him back to bed. Looking over her shoulder, she quickly says, “He get’s like this sometimes.” Although it felt as if there were more to it, it was probably better to wait until she felt comfortable enough to share it.

Sinder is a single mom, raising two children, carries a steady job in the workforce and also works from home, making up the difference for being the sole provider while spending time with her kids. She refuses to take charity or welfare, and wants nothing more than to leave behind a good example when she’s gone. Which is why, the last thing in the world she needs right now is for Justin to be, “different.”

As she sat back down, which was really more of a submission, she burst into tears. “I don’t know what’s happening. He’s up at least 3or 4 nights a week and crawls into bed with me. When he’s not, I can hear him sometimes talking in his room. I want to believe he’s playing with his action figures but, he simply can’t be. It’s dark, and sounds as if he’s having conversation-whole sentences, with another person. When we cross the street, sometimes it’s as if he’s in a trance. I have to always make sure I have a physical hold on him. Lately,” as she seemed to be mustering the courage to finish her thoughts, “he tells me sad ghosts need help where they live and now a man visiting? I’ve taken him to the Dr. They say he could be autistic. He doesn’t follow all of the guidelines though. They suggested medications and to limit his television, but he doesn't watch hardly any TV and the idea of medicating him...if I don’t, I’m a bad mom. Everything in me tells me, even though this doesn’t make sense with Justin, it does, at least to him, and I want to find out what that is. I don’t want to shut him down!"

Sinder's situation is far from uncommon. Clearly, she was caught in the middle of wanting what is best for Justin and fearing his place in society. She has done everything expected of her, yet something tells her there's something more she can do, but what?

When your child comes to you with fascinating stories, in the beginning, it's natural to play along. As they gain in detail and clarity soon, you begin thinking differently wondering if it isn't something more. Eventually there will be too many coincidences to ignore and suddenly a realm of parenting, no "What to Expect, when you're Expecting" book can prepare you for, begins to open, psychic abilities.

For most parents, the only option available while they try to figure out what to do is to keep the psychic child in the closet, so-to-speak. The risk of public scrutiny is just too much to bear and potential alienation by fellow classmates is a future no parent wants for their child. Today there are other options available for both the child and parent to get these kids out of the closet! To be continued...
