The Crow

A crow is the guide for the ghost of a rock musician who seeks revenge on those who killed him. Brandon Lee's death during the filming adds to the darkness of his perfect Halloween viewing experience.

The movie is based on a popular comic book created by James O'Barr, the series showed how a comic book hero could be dark and forbidding and still fight for justice.

A real crow was used for the filming, and there are many, many shots of it flying around, landing on objects and even interacting with the characters. Crows are VERY intelligent so it was relatively easy for the bird trainers to teach the crow-actors to perform their actions. Often it was merely a matter of training the crow to fly to food, and then placing food in the appropriate location. Moving food around in the air (from off stage) could easily cause the crow to appear to be watching someone or something move.

Of course, the scenes in which the crow was injured were done with dummy birds. The scenes with the enemy Judah, where Judah is putting knives into the bird's wings, were cut back and forth between a real bird (in the 'getting the bird ready' parts) and a puppet (for the harmful scenes).

If you enjoy crows, this is the perfect Halloween film to watch! Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy!
