This time out, I have Penny McCall's Ace Is Wild (Berkley). It's been more than a year since her last book, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so I've been waiting very impatiently to read this one. Vivienne Foster is psychic, and she's known for some time that law enforcement officers tend to think of her only as a fraud. So when she gets visions of U.S. Attorney Daniel 'Ace' Pierce being murdered, she takes matters into her own hands rather than expecting the police to believe her. Daniel's former FBI, but an on-the-job leg wound took him out of that end of law enforcement for good. Until the pretty but crazy Vivi kidnaps him from the charity bachelor auction he's participating in. Daniel doesn't believe her either, at least not until the shooting begins, and it's obvious the bullets are coming his direction. But he still doesn't believe she's psychic. Even after another attempt on his life that Vivi thwarts, he still can't buy into her claims. That doesn't mean, however, that he can't find her very attractive. Sexy, yes, but definitely crazy. Still, Vivi doesn't give up trying to save his life, which leads to more time spent in close quarters as they attempt to find out who is behind the murderous plot. And with sparks like this flying around, sooner or later, a fire is going to explode into searing hot life. Like her first two books, this one has plenty of humor to go along with the suspense, as well as a heroine who can take care of herself. But I have to say I didn't love it quite as much as the last two. It's a good story, told well, but something in the relationship between Daniel and Vivi just didn't click for me this time. This one's earned three of Cupid's five arrows.
