Have you ever wanted to safely duel someone? Well, then En Garde! is the game you've been looking for. Players use cards to try to gain the upper hand in a duel to the last man standing. Simple rules and fast, fun game play could easily make En Garde! a favorite card game on game night.
Each player starts out with 10 poise points. Poise points measure how calm, coll and collected you are during the duel. To play some cards will cost you poise points, and some cards played by your opponents will cause you to lose poise points. Once you've reached zero, you basically have one more turn to give it your all to try to regain your composure and stay in the game. The last person standing with poise points wins the game.
The game begins by dealing seven cards to all players. You may discard any or all of your cards. Then you must draw cards until you have seven in your hand. If you can't draw any more cards, then shuffle the discard pile to make a new deck.
On your turn you may initiate an exchange and play as many cards as you like. You will decide your move - maybe it will be an attack or it might be a card that will remove your opponent's defense. The other player may then play their response cards to an exchange. He/she might pull out a pistol to get the upper hand.
Players then resolve how many poise points are lost and then discard all cards used during the exchange.
En Garde! is from Slugfest Games that makes several brawling-themed games. En Garde! would make a great game night card game for friends since the rules are simple and easy to explain. So for even those who have never played En Garde! can start enjoying it during their first game.
