Line of Scrimmage

Hello, and welcome back! We're having some rain at the moment, and it looks like the entire weekend will be rather wet, but at least we're out of the hurricane strike zone unlike some other areas of the U.S. this weekend. The October romances are beginning to stack up here, which is good, since I've nearly decimated the September stack. I'm a little disappointed with the September books, in both quantity and quality. I've read more mediocre ones this month than I have in quite a while. Hopefully the October books will be better.

This time out, I have Marie Force's Line of Scrimmage (Sourcebooks). Susannah Sanderson is just ten days away from her divorce being finalized, and only a little longer still till her wedding to the very stable, calm Henry, who's loved her for years. But her almost-ex, Ryan, shows up unexpectedly. The football superstar is injured and absolutely determined to get his wife back before it's too late. He's not above blackmailing her into spending time with him, either. Needless to say, her fiance is not very pleased about Ryan's return, and Susannah tells herself she's not up to the chaos that surrounds Ryan everywhere. But she can't seem to persuade her hormones not to react, or her heart to remember the way things used to be. But along with the whirlwind of their past romance, there was heartache as well, and they'll have to get beyond that, too, if they're going to have a future, and that painful shared experience might be the most difficult thing to overcome. I can see where Ryan would be irresistible to the right woman, but I didn't like Susannah all that much. She's too wishy-washy for me; first she wants nothing to do with him, then she wants him, then she doesn't trust him. It was like watching a tennis match watching Susannah decide what she wanted with Ryan. This one was just okay for me, not a keeper, I'm afraid, despite the charming Ryan. It's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
