One of the nice things about Flash^R OOP is the many pre-built classes. These classes can be thought of as built-in blocks of code. Some of the most useful are the classes used for programming animation because the complicated mathematics is already programmed for you. In this tutorial, we will take a look at the fl.transitions Package which is used with the TransitionManager class to animate movie clips.

Our first step is to import the fl.transitions package with the import statement. If you will be using easing to enhance your animations, then you will also want to import fl.transitions.easing.

The fl.transitions package has several classes that you can use in your animations. Let's see what they can do. You will probably remember some of these transitions from Dynamic HTML.

fl.transitions package

Blinds
This transition uses horizontal or vertical masks to reveal the movie clip object. You can use up to 50 horizontal or vertical strips in the reveal.

Fade
This transition uses a fade-in effect to reveal the movie clip object.

Fly
This transition reveals the movie clip by slowly moving it onto the stage. The reveal can start from the top left, top center, top right, left center, center, right center, bottom left, bottom center or bottom right.

Iris
The iris transition reveals the movie clip with a circle or square mask. The reveal can start from the top left, top center, top right, left center, center, right center, bottom left, bottom center or bottom right.

Photo
This transition is much like the Fade transition as it has a fade effect to reveal the movie clip but it finishes with a flicker effect at the end of the transition.

PixelDissolve
This transition reveals the movie clip with many small squares. You can use up to 50 horizontal and 50 vertical squares.

Rotate
This transition will rotate the entire movie clip in a circle and then stop. You can rotate the movie clip clockwize or counter-clockwize. You can also control the amount of rotation.

Squeeze
This transition will reveal the movie clip on the stage by expanding the movie clip. The expansion can be horizontal or vertical.

Wipe
This transition uses a mask to reveal the movie clip. The transition can begin from the top left, top center, top right, left center, right center, bottom left, bottom center and bottom right.

Zoom
This transition expands the movie clip onto the stage.
