The Rustler

Hello, and welcome back! Our weather's been doing that typical season-change thing: one day it's cool and seasonal and the next it's hot and more summery. Which is very bad for staying healthy, apparently. I'm on my second cold in a month. Not good for getting more reading done. Good thing I did so much last week between colds.

This time out, I have the latest from Linda Lael Miller, The Rustler (HQN), which continues her 'Stone Creek' series. Outlaw brother Wyatt Yarbro is up this time, planning to change his life. No more train robbing or cattle rustling for him. No, he's going to settle down in Stone Creek near his brother and do some ranching. Sarah Tamlin lives in Stone Creek, and the rough would-be-rancher is intriguing. But Sarah's got a past no one knows about, and she needs to keep it that way. But someone else has other plans for Sarah's secret. Wyatt doesn't mind her past, but his own past is catching up to him as well; after all, a man doesn't spend years as an outlaw without making a few enemies. But Wyatt wants the pretty little banker, no matter what they both did before they met, and he'll protect her as best he can, of course. Sarah, however, has more to lose if her secret is exposed, and she's already lost enough. But if there's a way she can have Wyatt and keep those others she loves close to her, she'd love to find it. As always in a Linda Lael Miller story, you find small-town charm, as well as the interesting and often amusing characters who generally live in those small towns. You also get a hero and heroine with believable dilemmas, characters who'll make you fall in love, who'll make you laugh and cry along with them, and who'll make you sad to turn the last page. Of course, you also get to revisit characters you enjoyed in previous tales, as is the case here, with Wyatt's brother and his own wife. I always enjoy Ms. Miller's work, because her books area consistently fantastic, always touching, and often amusing. This one is no exception. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
