Five Questions with Tiffany Apan

For someone not familiar with your music, how would you categorize it?
Tiffany: My mind used to draw a bit of a blank when I would be asked this as the music I do isn't easily categorized:) The music has some influences of metal, new age, classical, opera, pop, gothic, ethereal pop, and celtic/world. But I've lately been categorizing it as World Music for the simple fact that the Celtic influences in the music on my debut album "Poet" have been noted several times in reviews, articles, and by audience members after a performance. I'm also in the process of writing my second album and I find I'm going more in a direction of using different styles of music from various different countries. But I do love to rock so there will still be some heavier songs in the mix:)
Did you write the songs on your new CD?
Tiffany: I did write the majority of the lyrics and melodies on my own. My partner Jason English and I co-wrote the songs "Free" and "Warrior" on the album. Jason also fully contributed the song "Run Away and Hide" to the album. "Scarborough Fair" is a traditional Celtic folk song and "Whispers" is actually a song my grandparents brought to life with the band they had back in the late 1950s/early 60s. Jason did the composition and arrangement of the music on the album. In writing my second album, I'm involving myself more in the composition and arrangement process. I learned a great deal from making "Poet" and I plan to apply what I learned onto the next album.
What producers did you work with?
Tiffany: Jason and I did alot of the producing. We also worked with Mark Kapsha (a good and talented friend of ours) and Michael Jantho. Toward the end of making the album, we met Rowen Poole of the internationally acclaimed progressive rock band, Persephone's Dream. He produced and mixed 3 tracks on the album (the remix for 'Ghost', Warrior, and Whispers). Rowen has officially signed on to produce my second album which I am definatly looking forward to.
If you weren't singing, what would you be doing?
Tiffany: If singing weren't my career, I would be a Voice Therapist or teaching some type of musical instrument. Voice Therapy is something I am very interested in. Music is my passion and I would want to be involved in any way I could. I also have an interest in helping animals and try to volunteer at shelters and such whenever I can.
What's one personal thing about yourself that you're willing to share with readers?
Tiffany: It's been almost 12 years since I've drank milk. I drink either soy or rice milk. I've seen people I know cringe when they see me drink it, but I think it's good:)
