Thanksgiving is a holiday where we appreciate what we have. In this modern age we have so much to be thankful for, that it is good once a year to count our blessings. This is also a wonderful time of year to resolve to simplify your life.

What is important to you and your family?
Ask yourself what is important to your family? If having a wonderfully decorated house for the holidays is important, then do that. But if it brings great stress, then give yourself permission not to do it. If having a turkey dinner with all the trimmings is what you want, then do it. But give yourself permission not to, if cooking it will stress you and your family.
There are many alternatives to cooking Thanksgiving Dinner. You can order a pre-cooked meal or eat out. If you invite people, ask them to bring a dish or two. Or cook the food ahead of time and freeze it until the big day.
Plan what you will do on that day that will bring peace and not stress to your family. Whether it is a walk with the family or watching the game, or playing board games. I suggest before the big day, getting your family together and discussing what you actually want to do that day. Your teenagers may not be happy if you plan a walk in the park and they are planning on playing video games for the day!
When cooking, stick to simple dishes
Cook your favorite simple dishes for Thanksgiving. Unless cooking is really your thing, donít be too adventurous. Use wholesome ingredients that are not over processed. Using ingredients close to nature gives a meal a very wholesome and simple feel. Check your local farmerís market for the ingredients.
Keep centerpieces simple
Just before Thanksgiving, take a walk with your family and gather up some items that can be used as centerpieces for your table. Newly fallen leaves, acorns, pumpkins and gourds make a lovely display for your home. Also delightful for Thanksgiving are homemade decorations by children.
However you spend your Thanksgiving, make sure it is a day filled with love and those you truly enjoy. Remember to give thanks for what you have and for what is truly important in life. Keeping it simple will make it more relaxed and enjoyable, making it more conducive to a really thankful day.
