Giant 15' Bird Spotted in Alaska

Although scientists disbelieve the report, several Alaskans have spotted a bird with a 15' wingspan. The Anchorage Daily News has reported the sightings, which occurred in southwest Alaska. Residents of the villages of Togiak and Manokotak made the reports in October 2002.

At first residents were skeptical of the news, but then more and more villagers caught sight of the bird on separate occasions. One plane flew within 1000 feet of the bird, and all on board were able to examine it.

Scientists feel that the residents probably saw a Steller's eagle. The Stellar's eagle can be found in the region and has a wingspan of 8'. It can weigh up to 20 pounds. While the villagers agree the bird was eagle-like, they also insist that it was much more than 8' wide.
